Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the lessons take place?

I teach the majority of my lessons from the Creative Central studio located on New Street, Derby, DE1 2LX. It is a great place to learn to play the guitar, boasting all the equipment you will need for your guitar lessons. There is also plenty of customer parking at the studio. I also offer lessons taught in my student's home, meaning you can learn in the comfort of your own home. Do note there is an additional travel charge for home lessons, simply get in touch to find out more as well as prices.

Do you teach children?

Yes, I have taught many young students over the years and I am happy to teach your children as well. I have built a specially designed course of lessons to help young students develop on guitar in a fun and engaging way. Parents are more than welcome to sit in during our lessons (as well get involved playing the guitar as well!).

Am I too old to learn to the play the guitar?

Not at all, there is no upper age limit for learning guitar. I have taught 70 year olds+ to play some of the classic songs of bygone eras, having tremendous fun learning these songs. Music is a great way of stimulating the mind in older years and learning a new skill is a healthy activity for anyone of any age. Often it is 25 - 35 year old potentical students that are worried that because they didn't learn the guitar in childhood they have missed the chance - that is simply not true. Anyone can learn to play the guitar!

Do I need to buy a guitar before we begin our lessons?

You are more than welcome to start our guitar lessons before buying a guitar, however, if you are serious about playing guitar then purchasing a guitar within the first 2 months of lessons is advisable. I would be more than happy to point you in the right direction for some high quality but good budget guitars (electrics: £100 - £130, acoustics: £75 - £100).

Can I learn acoustic/electric guitar only?

Absolutely, I teach both electric and acoustic guitar. You are welcome to learn one or both, totally up to you!

Electric & Acoustic

Learning guitar is an activity that should be fun, not frustrating and dull. Therefore, my lessons are all about playing the music that inspired you to pick up the guitar in the first place. I am an expert at tutoring beginner students, so can help you play the guitar even if you have never touched one in your life before.

I have many years teaching experience and would be more than happy to teach you to play the guitar as well.

Professional Guitar Tuition
I've just gotten back from my first lesson with Mark and I am absolutely thrilled! He was really friendly, and within one lesson he was able to help me to play a small guitar riff that I could practise at home - Ed (beginner)
